Diving Deep Shawl

The Diving Deep Shawl is for those who jump right in and those who prefer to stay close to the surface.

The shawl features the same 4 row stitch pattern as the Wading In Shawl, but uses a different construction. You can get both patterns in the Wading In and Diving Deep ebook.

The triangular shawl is worked from one corner. For the first half of the shawl, increase are made at both edges and decreases are made in the middle of the shawl. Then, increases are made only on one edge and decreases are made on the other edge and in the middle. The pattern features a 4 row repeat in the increase section and a similar 4 row repeat in the decrease section.

Level: Easy The pattern features a four row lace repeat. There are special stitches, including decrease stitches, which are detailed in the picture tutorial, making the pattern accessible for a beginner looking for a new challenge.

Size: Adjustable. Information is included to change the size of the pattern. The pictured shawl is approximately 76” wide by 18.5” deep before blocking and 84” wide by 19.5” deep after blocking. It used just under 150 g (623 yds) of fingering weight yarn.

The pattern is written in English using US crochet terms. The PDF download includes:

  • The complete pattern for the shawl
  • A picture tutorial with 36 pictures detailing every row and special stitch
  • A list of materials
  • A list of abbreviations
  • A description of special stitches

Two pdfs are included: a printer friendly pattern and a longer tutorial.

I made the pictured shawl with Red Heart It’s a Wrap Rainbow and an F (3.75 mm) crochet hook.
