The Flakelet Hat uses a special stitch created over two rows that continues through the crown of the hat. The hat looks great when you alternate colors every 2 rows or when you use a single color. For a two colored hat, you will only use one color each round, so the hat is a great introduction to multi-colored knitting. The hat works up quickly and makes a cozy accessory for anyone, adults, children, or babies.

Flakelet: A small flake of snow or something else

Note: The special stitch can be a little hard on your hands when working it many times. The Frore Hat uses the same special stitch, but has only a few rows of it, so it is much easier on your hands.

The pattern has been test knit and tech edited.

Sizes:

  • 0-3 months (3-6 months, 6-12 months, Toddler, Child, Adult S, Adult M, Adult L)
  • Hat circumference: 14.25 (15.25, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.25, 22)" / 36.5 (38.5, 40.5, 43, 46, 48, 51.5, 55.5) cm
  • Head circumference: 16 (17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 24)" / 40.5 (43, 45.5, 48.5, 51, 53.5, 56, 61) cm

Yardage

  • Main Color: 27 (28, 33, 36, 43, 47, 52, 61) yards
  • Contrast Color: 22 (24, 28, 29, 34, 38, 43, 49) yards
  • Total (and amount for single color hat): 49 (52, 61, 65, 77, 85, 95, 110) yards

Level: Easy The pattern uses a special stitch created over 2 rows using common stitches. Only one color is used each round and the hat can be made with a single color.

Materials:

  • Super bulky weight yarn
  • Size US 11/8.0 mm 16” circular needle (Note: You will need a shorter circular needle or double pointed needles for the smaller sizes.)
  • Size US 13/9.0 mm 16” circular needle
  • Size US 13/9.0 mm double pointed needles
  • Yarn needle
  • Stitch marker(s), including a unique marker for the beginning of the round
