This colorful blanket will be an instant favorite for any child. Koalas with bows (or bow ties) are surrounded by flowers. The blanket is finished with a simple border and picot edging.
The koalas and flowers are part of the squares and are worked as you make each square so all you sew on are the eyes, nose, and bow. The flower squares can be replaced by solid squares or squares with a circle in the middle in a contrasting color (pattern for these squares are included).
You can customize the blanket by changing the colors, square placement, and types of squares. The pattern includes several square layout options and blank diagrams to color and create your own unique blanket. There is a diagram with flower squares and one with solid squares.
Size: The blanket measures approximately 32 ½"/ 82.5 cm square. It can be easily adapted by changing the number of squares. The border will work for any rectangular arrangement of squares.
Level: Intermediate (The picture tutorial makes it accessible for an adventurous beginner.)

Two pdfs are included: a printer friendly pattern and a longer tutorial.
I made the blanket with Knit Pick's Shine Sport yarn and an E (3.50 mm) hook. I used approximately 1900 yards. You will also need small amounts of fingering weight yarn and a corresponding hook for the eyes and noses. Exact colors are given in the pattern. However, you can use other yarn.
