To celebrate the pattern release, take 20% off Abendrot with the code sunset through February 5!
Abendrot translates to either the glow of the sunset or evening red (the color of the sky at sunset). In either case, it's the perfect name for this cheerful blanket with smiling suns, flowers, and butterflies on top of a sunset gradient background. The blanket is finished with a puff stitch border and picot edging.
The suns, flowers, and butterflies are part of the hexagons and are worked as you make each hexagon so all you sew on are the eyes and mouth. First, he hexagons are joined into rows as you go. Next, the strips of hexagons are crocheted together. Finally, the border is worked around the whole blanket.
You can customize the blanket by changing the colors, hexagon placement, and types of hexagons. The pattern includes a blank diagram to color and a second diagram where you can cut and paste the different types of hexagons to create your own unique blanket.

I made the blanket with Miss Babs Yowza yarn and an E (3.50 mm) hook. I used approximately 2485 yards for a blanket measuring 46” / 117 cm from top to bottom (from one flat edge to the opposite flat edge) and 42.5” / 108 cm wide when measured horizontally from one peak to another. You will also need small amounts of fingering weight yarn and a corresponding hook for the eyes and noses. Exact colors are given in the pattern. However, you can use other yarn.
